Jimi Hendrix: Hero

A friend shared the Jimi Hendrix interviews from the Dick Cavette Show with me today. He knows Hendrix is one of my heros, but he didn’t know this is my favorite interview of Hendrix and that I think of it to hold myself to a higher standard. Let me explain a bit, then you should watch the videos and decide for yourself.

Hendrix had just played Woodstock, the biggest concert of all time. He was the highest paid musician in the world, and even went so far as to buy a house for rehearsals for the the Woodstock performance. At Woodstock, he played the Star Spangled banner when the nation desperately needed to hear it, much like today. That’s not why he’s my hero. Nope. It’s because that on top of all that he did his best not to lose himself, stayed modest, and literally only compared himself to his past self. That’s tough stuff, and I’m not worthy. Watch the video, and see for yourself.

Who are your heros?
